A recent Rasmussen Report tells the tale of Obama's popularity with the American people.
At the start of Obama's presidency, the President enjoyed the high ratings characteristic of any new President at 65% approval. By September 6, 2009, that approval rating had dropped to a waivering 49% as a result of the many changes that ultimately proved unpopular to most Americans.
By December of 2009, the President's overall approval numbers had dropped to the 45% level with frequent upticks and dips illustrating the pattern of a conflicted populace.
As we head into the voting season, Obama's ratings have plummetted to the lowest point ever in his career as President--a sudden and dismal 42%. This does not bode well for either the Democrats or the President as the Fed has seemingly run out of silver bullets to get the economy moving again and jobless rates remain mired.
Adding insult to injury, the talk on the Hill has focused upon the Bush tax cuts, but nothing meaningful has been forthcoming thus far. The Democrats risk losing much more than just the House if they continue to put off the positive signs that both the American people and Business require to move the economy ahead.
Raising taxes under threat of a double-dip recession, if not depression, will prove to be the death knell for Democrats in November if they allow nothing to change.
But will the Republicans take advantage of this fact against the best interests of the economy? Things are sure to get interesting from here on in.
