Much ado about nothing? We don't think so.
When we looked at the various clips from sites all over the web in order to find Charle's Krauthammer's words concerning Obama's speech, which made at least some few hardcore Conservatives flee wretching to some strategically located toilet, we turned up nothing.
So did he say what we thought he said? At some point one begins questioning what he or she thought that they heard. The Mediate and Foxnews clips both, whether tactically or otherwise, edited out the portion of Krauthammer's words that left Rush Limbaugh and many others grimacing in confusion.
Here is the clip of what Limbaugh said:
Now, when you look at the clips and reports all over the web, at least the ones we have seen, each appears to edit out Krauthammer's opening words. Below is the "edited" video from Mediate:
If you look for either of these videos or any of the others that we have been able to find, you will probably not find the exact words of what Krauthammer said very easily.
Here, finally, is the actual DVR'd text from Krauthammer's words that we had been unable to root out:
"I thought the president's speech was a remarkable display of oratory and of oratorical skill, both in terms of the tone and the content. In tone, the President faced a very difficult problem not of his making"
Charles Krauthammer's other comments concerning Obama and his Tucson speech were fairly tame and not unusual. So what does this mean and does it really matter? Not really, but it does create a certain amount of discomfort whenever we or many others read Krauthammer's columns in the future --especially when he speaks of Obama based upon his change in tone of late. It also must be noted that the talking heads over at CNN had a totally different take on the Obama speech. It should further be noted that both Chris Wallace and Britt Hume were certainly NOT slobbering all over the speech.
Krauthammer pretty much had the market covered in that regard. What did we think?
Well...it was a good speech however...we have a "remarkable" memory.
