Speaker of the House John Boehner has just announced a budget agreement which will forestall the shutting down of the government. Boehner, at 10:53 pm, indicated that the House will need to vote on the spending measure.
Boehner also indicated that the measure will cut spending, while keeping government open. The Speaker reiterated that the short term spending resolution will have to undergo a final vote next week. The spending measure will construct a final bridge to keep the government in operation and results in a deal of approximately $ 38.5 billion in spending cuts.
Speaker Boehner stated that the deal involved "a lot of discussion." The deal also keeps government spending down and "aids job creators." In essence, Boehner maintained that this was the best deal that he could get.
The continuing resolution will involve a spending resolution which will need to be voted on; however, Boehner indicated this should be no problem both in the House and the Senate.
President Obama subsequently gave a speech where he indicated that the Washington Monument, along with the US Government, "will be open as usual as a result of the agreement." The President also stated that the budget "will invest in America's future" while noting that many of the cuts will be painful. Obama stressed the need to "live within our means and Win The Future."
Obama stressed that the budget was about spending cuts and nothing more and called it "the biggest annual spending cut in history." This despite the $1.6 trillion dollar deficit rung up already this year.
