Former House Speaker and 2012 GOP Presidential Candidate Newt Gingrich and his entire senior staff have apparently parted ways, according to Rick Tyler, Gingrich spokesman (among those who abandoned the campaign).
Tyler as well as Rob Johnson, Dave Carney, Katon Dawson, Sam Dawson, Scott Rials, Craig Schoenfeld, Walter Whetsell have resigned, as well as many of Gingrich’s early state operations.
In a statement released via Facebook, Gingrich insists that his campaign will move forward.
“I am committed to running the substantive, solutions-oriented campaign I set out to run earlier this spring,” Gingrich wrote. “The campaign begins anew Sunday in Los Angeles.”
So, why the mass resignations? According to inside sources, a deciding factor may have been the two-week vacation that Gingrich embarked upon against the advice of his staff, damaging after a less-than-stellar campaign launch just days earlier. Though Gingrich had returned from his vacation this week, aside from a brief stop in New Hampshire, he had not resumed serious campaigning efforts. His staff largely agreed that Gingrich did not show true commitment to a much-needed grass-roots effort.
